Step 1. Go to canvas
Click Item Bank or Assessment in the main menu. Select a folder in the index to open it and click the plus icon on the top right of the page or click the name of an existing item/assessment name to edit it. The toolbar and canvas opens on a new page.
Step 2. Drag component
Click and drag the Fill the Blanks icon from the toolbar onto the canvas. If you're on the Assessment canvas, click the Components tab in the toolbar first to access the Fill the Blanks icon.
Step 3. Enter text
Click the link in the textbox to open an overlay. Enter the text in the first field. You can't include line breaks. To separate a block of text, just repeat these steps add multiple Fill the Blanks components to your canvas. Click Save to close the overlay and the text appears on your canvas.
Step 4. Set word lists
Click a word in the text to replace it with a blank. Click OK to confirm this word will be a blank. Click the pencil icon to open an overlay. Enter the words you want to include in the list of options test takers can select from and click Save. Repeat this step for each word that you want to make a blank.
Step 5. Resize and position
Click and drag the corner of the component to resize the width. Click and drag the component to re position it on the canvas.
Step 6. Preview and save
Click the Preview button to see how it will appear when a user is taking your assessment and then click Save once you're happy with your Fill the Blanks component.
