One of the main focuses for this release is a new Dashboard with a responsive interface and greater customization options for administrators and users. A new four column layout with an incorporated live save feature makes CompetencyCore more flexible and easy to use, while new pages and content increase functionality.
Administrators will be able to choose what to display as the homepage content: the Classic Dashboard, the New Dashboard, or a Content Document. In this article, we will focus on the New Dashboard. Although many of these changes are geared towards administrators, this has a ripple effect in that administrators will be working for the benefit of users.
We’ve introduced two new pages under the Features tab menu in Administration, called Manage Widgets and Manage Dashboard. The Manage Widgets page is where you can enable or disable widgets, and enabled widgets are then available to users for their own dashboards. While existing widgets have been restyled, there are five new widgets with this release: Assessment Reports, HipChat, My Tasks, Job Matches, and an RSS Feed widget.
Assessment Reports: This widget lets you ‘pin’ a Completion Status assessment report to the dashboard. This includes customization options such as being able to change the report being displayed, and you can add as many to the dashboard as you’d like.
HipChat: This chat widget shows messages streamed from a chat room, which is configured by the administrator.
My Tasks: See everything you need to do all in one place with this handy widget. You can now see more open tasks than before, ordered by due date.
Job Matches: This widget is based on My Job Matches located in the Inventory Module. It displays a progress bar for each of the top five job profiles that match a user’s validated competencies. By clicking on the details for each job profile in the widget, you can see a list of competencies attached to the profile.
RSS Feed: This widget allows you to connect to a blog, which could be used to promote your organization’s own website, or showcase information related to your industry.
On the Manage Dashboard page, you have control over the dashboard template that users will customize according to their needs, and how much flexibility you have allowed them. Some of the options include: locking users dashboards, making certain widgets mandatory, updating or resetting user dashboards, etc.
The layout for the settings page has been redesigned for CompetencyCore 7.4. With the ability to choose between the Classic and New Dashboard, the settings and permissions have been renamed to reflect what applies to which dashboard. For example, the Number of Columns setting has been renamed Classic Dashboard – Number of Columns.
A settings navigation menu has also been added, and appears beside the sidebar navigation menu. You will be able to more easily access different categories of settings, including those specific to certain modules.
